Spay/Neuter
The new PAWS Spay/Neuter Program was created to help break the cycle of animal overpopulation and overcrowding in Petersburg that begins with the birth of an unplanned litter. It will directly reduce the number of animals abandoned or surrendered to the city shelter, where they risk euthanasia due to overcrowding. And, it will make it possible for Petersburg residents, especially the 25% who live below the poverty line, to know the joy of living with a pet that is less likely to roam, fight, display territorial behaviors, or suffer from life threatening diseases like, FIV (feline AIDS,) feline leukemia testicular and prostate cancer. It costs between $200 and $600 dollars to sterilize a family pet in Petersburg. Our goal is to spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinate 100 family pets in 2026.
