What We Do

PAWS is dedicated to building a brighter future for animals in need by providing life-saving resources that eliminate suffering, reduce euthanasia, curb overpopulation and increase adoptions in Petersburg.

PAWS has been advocating for a new animal shelter in the City of Petersburg since our founding in 2009. The 50-year-old cinderblock structure, with its inadequate space and outdated infrastructure, was no longer able to safely house Petersburg’s growing number of homeless animals. The city secured the financing to build a new shelter in 2024.

A new shelter for Petersburg means a new mission for PAWS. Today we are focused on supporting services in the new shelter and caring for the animals who live there.
